Forgotten Space: An IPA Born from a Grateful Groove

At Fertile Ground, every beer we make tells a story, and Forgotten Space, our flagship IPA, is no exception. Crisp, expressive, and rooted in something deeper, this beer takes its name from a lyric that lives in the heart of anyone who’s ever followed the long, strange trip of the Grateful Dead.

"In another time's forgotten space / Your eyes looked from your mother's face…"

That opening line from Franklin’s Tower, a Dead classic from the 1975 album Blues for Allah,  was the spark. It’s cosmic, cryptic, and undeniably poetic. Just like the best kind of IPA.

What’s in a Name?

We named this beer Forgotten Space not just as a tip of the cap to Franklin’s Tower, but because the lyric speaks to something we believe in: the connection between the present moment and the creative spirit. That’s what brewing is, a daily act of expression, rooted in tradition but driven by spontaneity.

The Dead made music that was alive, ever-evolving, never played the same way twice. We brew beer with a similar mindset: grounded in craft, but always open to exploration. Forgotten Space is our tribute to that ethos.

About the Beer

This is our flagship for a reason. Forgotten Space is a soft, hazy IPA, built on a foundation of oats and wheat for a pillowy mouthfeel, with juicy, tropical-forward hops that offer notes of citrus peel, mango, and light pine.

It’s easy to drink but never boring, approachable for hop newcomers but nuanced enough for the IPA faithful.

No gimmicks. Just a dialed-in expression of balance, texture, and hop character, a little piece of improvisation you can hold in your hand.

Music in the Background

You’ll often hear the Grateful Dead spinning in the background at the taproom, not out of nostalgia, but because their music invites openness, curiosity, and community. That’s the same energy we aim to create at Fertile Ground. And when you crack a can of Forgotten Space, you’re joining us in that groove.

“Roll away the dew.”

So next time you’re at the bar or pulling one from the fridge, take a sip, take a breath, and let yourself drift a little. Maybe even throw Franklin’s Tower on the speakers.

It’s not just beer. It’s a rhythm. It’s a feeling. It’s a little forgotten space in your day, and it’s meant to be enjoyed.
