Bright, Tart, and Bursting with Flavor: The Contours of Light Series and the Beauty of Fruited Sours
If there’s one beer style that knows how to stop a palate in its tracks, it’s the fruited sour. With bold acidity, lush fruit character, and eye-catching color, sours have carved out a vibrant space in craft beer, and at Fertile Ground Beer Co., we’re proud to be a part of that movement with our Contours of Light series.
Why Fruited Sours?
Fruited sours are where art meets acidity. Their balance of tartness and fruit-forward flavor makes them endlessly refreshing, especially in Mississippi’s heat. They’re beers that challenge expectations and invite creativity. At their best, they’re expressive, nuanced, and impossible to forget.
But here’s the thing: brewing a good fruited sour isn’t just about tossing fruit into a tank. It’s about balance, fermentation control, and knowing when to let ingredients shine.
Introducing: Contours of Light
Our Contours of Light series is our love letter to fruited sours, a rotating lineup of kettle-soured ales infused with seasonal or standout fruits. Each release is a new expression, crafted to be bright, layered, and drinkable.
How It’s Made
We use a kettle souring process, which gives us control over the acidity while preserving the fresh character of the fruit. Once we reach the right pH, we boil, ferment, and condition with a generous addition of real fruit, no extracts, no shortcuts. The result is a beer that’s tart but approachable, layered but clean.
Each edition in the series is brewed in small batches, allowing us to experiment with fruit combinations that both complement and challenge the sour base. Sometimes the fruit leads. Sometimes the tartness does. But every time, it’s a balance we obsess over.

Contours of Light releases drop regularly, and we announce each new fruit pairing on our social channels and in the taproom. Whether you’re a longtime sour fan or just sour-curious, there’s always something new to try.
